Henrietta Miller Hickman was born on the farm of her parents which is just south of Morgantown. This farm was close to her paternal grandparents, farms of her great uncles, farms of cousins and their families.
She attended Morgantown schools with the exception of her 3rd and 4th grades when she and her family lived in Ross, Ohio.
She graduated from Morgantown High School, attended Franklin College, graduating from Canterbury College, Danville, Indiana, in 1950.
She married "Mac" Hickman in 1951, and lived in Martinsville for five years as that was Mr. Hickman's home. In 1956, they moved to Florida to enter business with Mac's father. While in Florida, she taught in several schools—Leesburg, Groveland, Titusville, Jacksonville.
After 22 years in Florida, Mac accepted employment in Pennsylvania and then took a transfer to Michigan. He retired in Michigan and they moved back to their beloved Indiana.
With age came a love of historical research about Morgantown and its families. In the early 2000's, John and Suzanne Hickey asked her to research the farm just west of Morgantown on SR 252, south side, in order to have it listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This research took her several months using the courthouse and main branch library records. Upon completion, She was asked to research the downtown of Morgantown to have several buildings and residences placed on the register. She knew the task would take her a LONG time by herself, so she asked Jeanne Weaver (another historian) to help. They spent many months at the courthouse and library digging into the history of 50+ pieces of property. The more they worked the more interested they became in the town's history. So, after the register listing, they decided to publish a book. They are VERY pleased that the book has sold several hundred copies as they debated if they should even have 100 copies printed when they started!
