Reuben's Room
This beautiful room was the bedroom of Dr. Reuben Griffitt.
It has beautiful windows along the south side of the house overlooking main street. It is located on the second floor and is very spacious.

Dr. Reuben Cummins Griffitt was born in Morgantown, Indiana on December 28, 1845, he was the 13th of 14 children born to Reuben and Lavina Shell Griffitt. In February of 1864 Dr. Griffitt and ten others from Morgantown joined Company. C, 22nd Regiment Indiana Volunteers which had been organized in 1861 at Nashville, Indiana. This regiment participated in twenty-eight battles. On September 1, 1864, he and five others of his regiment were captured at Jonesboro, Georgia and taken by railroad boxcars to Andersonville, Georgia prison. Surviving his capture, he returned home and wrote a book, SIX MONTHS IN REBEL PRISONS, which told of the horrors of the prisons.
March 8, 1907, the Senate passed a bill authorizing the Governor, J. Frank Hanly, to appoint a commission of three ex-soldiers, citizens of Indiana who, with the chief executive of the state as an advisory member, were to constitute the "Andersonville Monument Commission." Those appointed were:

David C. Smith, Treasurer, Crawfordsville, IN
Calvin W. Diggs, Secretary, Winchester, IN
They were to provide a monument to honor the Indiana soldiers who were in the notorious Andersonville, GA prison during the Civil War. The Indiana monument was unveiled and dedicated at Andersonville, GA National Cemetery on Thursday, November 26, 1908.
